17 Forever
Butter London Tart With A Heart

Forever is a basic-but-super-glossy beige creme. It’s another two-coater, which makes it fantastic for everyday wear since it’s a doddle to apply. I’m not often one for basic varnishes so I spiced it up a bit with a coat of Tart With A Heart on my ring fingers.

Butter London Knees Up
14/02/12

This is a lovely metallic red, with the great formula that’s typical of Butter’s varnishes. It applies very smoothly and evenly, and is opaque in two coats, with no visible brushmarks despite the metallic finish. It also dries very quickly, so no need to worry about denting or sheet prints if you apply it an hour or two before bed, as I tend to.

Knees Up is very similar to a-england’s Perceval; probably close enough to call it a dupe. Which you choose depends entirely on which brand you prefer, as they’re both excellent in every way.

Butter London Knackered
5/02/12

Knackered is definitely a layering varnish. I used three coats and as you can see, there’s still quite a bit of visible nail line. This isn’t really a problem, though, since it’s a very strong green-purple duochrome and I don’t think layering it would reduce that very much at all (though I’ve yet to try this out). It’s also got a good amount of silver and holographic glitter scattered throughout. Though it’s less obvious than the duochrome, it’s still obvious enough to provide interesting little flashes of colour that catch the eye once in a while.

This isn’t the first colour I’d think of when it comes to a S/S collection, but it rounds out Butter’s rather well, in my opinion.

Butter London Slapper
3/02/12

Slapper is my favourite colour of this collection, though it has my least favourite name. The turquoise is so rich and vivid that I can’t help but love it, and I love the colourshift between direct sunlight and shade (as shown in the second photo). The formula was also the best of the collection - wonderfully smooth and pigmented, with no pulling or streaking - as well as being opaque in two coats like Bossy Boots. Due to the amount of pigment, it does take a little more attention to get everything off, particularly around the cuticle. This is probably going to go into heavy rotation for me this year.

Butter London Disco Biscuit
2/02/12

Disco Biscuit is so pink that I wasn’t quite sure what to do with myself while I was wearing it. I’m really not a pink person at all, but I decided to be brave and pick up the bolder of the two pinks in Butter’s S/S collection. It’s somewhat on the jelly side, and therefore correspondingly sheer, though it built up well and there was very little VNL with only three coats. I really like the blue/iridescent glitter that runs through the varnish. This was a little bit bumpy, even with a good thick layer of top coat.

Butter London Bossy Boots

I really love this colour. It’s a very subtle, pale pistachio green that’s suitable for an infinite number of occasions, and pretty much the embodiment of spring in my eyes! The formula was a little thick and almost felt chalky as I applied it, but it dried well and was opaque in two coats. The little pop of colour would be absolutely wonderful for livening up an outfit, while not being completely overwhelming. Spring wedding, anyone?

Rimmel London Ethereal
NerdLacquer Entirely Unlike Tea
9/01/12

I suspect Ethereal is supposed to be sheer, since I had to use four coats to get (mostly) full opacity. Oh well! It’s quite a nice pink nonetheless, and the formula was fairly good. It didn’t dry anywhere near as quickly as it’s supposed to, even on the first coat.

I then put a single coat of Entirely Unlike Tea over the top to see if a pink base would bring out the pink duochrome a little bit more than when EUT is worn alone. It does, very slightly, but I think I need to find a better pink to layer it over in future due to the drying time and lack of opacity from Ethereal.

Butter London No More Waity, Katie
26/11/11

Is this a jelly polish? I’m not sure, because I’m still not very good at nail varnish, so I’m just going to work on the theory that it is. It’s how I imagine a jelly would be, in any case. The formula was quite gloopy and difficult to apply, and it needed three coats to build some kind of opacity. Unfortunately, as it’s also packed with glitter, this made removal an absolute nightmare - possibly even more difficult than Rainbow Connection.

However, I absolutely adore the colour. It’s a smoky sort of lavender to my eyes (I do not know what “greige” is and refuse to use it to describe anything), and the lilac glitter adds so much depth that it’s irresistable.

Butter London Minger
No7 Beautifully Black
31/10/11

Having been assured repeatedly by Butter’s twitter feed that messy tips are a thing we’re doing now, I decided to have a crack at it. It turns out it’s quite difficult to make an artful mess on the end of your nails when you’re using the bottle’s brush and not a makeup sponge.

I’m not normally one for bright oranges, but Halloween felt like a good day to make an exception. The black tips were my way of trying to calm the whole affair down, and I was pretty pleased with the effect in the end.

Butter London Chimney Sweep

How much do I have to say about any given Butter varnish? By now, you all know how I feel about them, and until the day I come across one that is kind of terrible, I don’t think I need to repeat myself.
